About This Annual Salary to Hourly Converter

Use this annual salary to hourly calculator to turn an Irish yearly salary into an effective gross hourly wage. It also shows daily, weekly, and monthly equivalents so you can compare salaried offers with hourly roles more clearly.

How the conversion works. The conventional gross hourly equivalent is calculated by dividing annual salary by total paid hours across the year: annual salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks per year). The daily figure uses your selected working days instead of assuming every role is five days.

Why paid weeks matter. Paid weeks describe the period covered by the salary. Paid annual leave should normally remain included. Use fewer than 52 only for genuinely unpaid leave, seasonal downtime, term-time arrangements or a shorter paid working year.

Contractual versus effective hourly rate. This result uses the hours you enter. If you regularly work unpaid additional hours, run a second scenario using those actual hours to understand your lower effective hourly rate.

Working-hours context. The Workplace Relations Commission working-hours guidance says the maximum working week is generally 48 hours on average over the applicable reference period. Enter the paid weekly hours in your own contract; this calculator does not determine legal working-time or leave entitlements.

Gross vs net pay. These figures are gross earnings before PAYE, USC, and PRSI. Use your PAYE, USC, PRSI, or net salary calculators if you want to estimate take-home pay.

This calculator is for planning purposes only. Overtime, bonuses, commissions, shift premiums, and employer-specific pay policies are not included.

Common annual salary to hourly examples

These quick examples answer searches such as “€42,000 a year is how much an hour?” using a standard 39-hour week and 52 paid weeks per year.

These are gross-rate conversions. They do not show PAYE, USC or PRSI. For take-home pay, use the Net Salary Calculator after checking the hourly equivalent.
