New rates from 30 August 2026
| Product | New issue | Total return | AER | Previous issue result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3-Year Savings Bond | 19 | 6% | 1.96% | 4% / 1.32% AER |
| 5-Year Savings Certificate | 26 | 12% | 2.29% | 9% / 1.74% AER |

| 10-Year National Solidarity Bond | 10 | 30% | 2.66% | 22% / 2.01% AER |
The purchase date matters. A rate announcement does not reprice an earlier issue, and choosing a product on 29 August versus 30 August 2026 changes which published issue applies.
Purchase limits and access checks
- Fixed-term products: official guidance states a minimum purchase of €50 and a maximum holding of €120,000 in each product.
- Instalment Savings: €25 to €1,000 per month for twelve monthly lodgements.
- Post Office Savings Bank: the official maximum deposit is €250,000.
- Early repayment: check the exact issue schedule. A maturity return should not be treated as an early-encashment promise.
The terms state that notice may be required for early repayment and that no further interest is earned after maturity while instructions are outstanding. Keep your product documents and issue number.
State backing is not the Deposit Guarantee Scheme
The NTMA states that Ireland State Savings repayment is a direct, unconditional obligation of the Irish Government. Eligible deposits with a bank or credit institution use a different protection framework, normally the applicable Deposit Guarantee Scheme.
That difference matters when comparing products. Review return, access, term and product rules as well as the form of protection; “State-backed” does not make a long fixed term suitable for money you may need quickly.
