About This Hourly to Annual Salary Converter

Use this hourly to annual salary calculator to convert an Irish hourly wage into gross yearly pay. It also shows monthly, fortnightly, weekly, and daily equivalents so you can compare offers, budget more confidently, and understand how overtime changes annual earnings.

Standard working hours in Ireland. The Workplace Relations Commission working-hours guidance says the maximum working week is generally 48 hours on average over the applicable reference period. Many Irish contracts use 37.5, 39, or 40 hours, which is why this calculator lets you enter your own weekly hours.

How the calculation works. Annual basic pay is calculated as hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks per year. If you add overtime, the calculator also includes hourly rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours per week × paid weeks per year. The daily result uses the days-per-week figure you enter, so a three-day or four-day work pattern is not forced into a five-day assumption.

Paid leave is still paid time. Do not normally reduce paid weeks simply because you take annual leave. Use fewer than 52 only where the role has genuinely unpaid weeks, seasonal downtime or a shorter working year.

Gross vs net pay. These figures are gross earnings before PAYE, USC, and PRSI. Your actual take-home pay will be lower, so use a dedicated net salary or PAYE calculator if you want payroll deductions.

This calculator is for planning and illustration only. It does not account for taxes, shift premiums other than the overtime multiplier you enter, public holiday rules, or employer-specific payroll policies.

Common hourly wage to annual salary examples

These examples use a 39-hour week and 52 paid weeks. Choose a card to load that hourly rate into the calculator, then change the hours, weeks or overtime for your own job.

The €14.15 example reflects the adult National Minimum Wage applying from 1 January 2026. Age-based and sector-specific rates can differ, so confirm the current position in the official WRC minimum-wage guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert an hourly wage to annual salary?
Multiply the gross hourly rate by paid hours per week and paid weeks per year. For example, €20 × 39 × 52 is €40,560 gross annual pay before overtime or payroll deductions.
What is €20 an hour per year in Ireland?
At 39 paid hours per week and 52 paid weeks, €20 an hour is approximately €40,560 gross per year. Different weekly hours, unpaid weeks, or overtime will change the result.
Does this calculator show net pay?
No. It gives gross earnings only. Use the net salary or PAYE calculator to estimate take-home pay.
Why do paid weeks matter?
Some roles pay 52 weeks, while others effectively pay fewer weeks because of unpaid leave or seasonal work.
Can I include overtime?
Yes. You can add overtime hours per week and a multiplier such as 1.5x or 2x.
What is the daily equivalent based on?
The daily estimate uses the days-per-week value you enter, so three-day, four-day and five-day patterns produce the correct gross daily equivalent.
