SEAI Home Energy Grant Calculator Ireland 2026

Estimate SEAI support for solar panels, a battery, attic insulation or a heat pump, and compare your project’s cost after grants.

Your home and upgrades

Plan individual grants using the October 2026 rules. No MPRN number or welfare documents are collected.

Manage individual upgrades yourself with registered contractors. Other routes need a separate SEAI assessment.

Select only when all stated conditions apply to you as the homeowner. Another household member’s payment does not qualify you for enhanced solar.

This increases attic support only. The home must still meet the older-property condition.

Use the actual construction year.

Both construction and first occupation must meet the relevant cutoff.

Check the electricity bill. Do not enter the number here.

Compare an existing offer with SEAI before assuming these rates change your approved amount.

How this SEAI grant estimate works

Individual residential grants screened by measure, using SEAI rules checked 21 October 2026.

Published by Irish Calculators. Rates, rules and assumptions are maintained against the official sources linked below.

  1. Check applicant, property age, MPRN, approval timing and previous funding for each measure.
  2. Apply the standard or eligible enhanced solar and attic rate once; add battery support only at 5 kWh or above.
  3. Calculate water-based heat-pump components separately within dwelling and quote-cost caps.
  4. Add only screened measures; subtract the grant estimate from separately entered project costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the standard solar panel grant in Ireland?
The current standard solar grant is €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp and €200 per additional kWp up to 4 kWp, capped at €1,800. A qualifying battery can add up to €600.
Who can receive the enhanced €9,000 solar and battery support?
Qualifying homeowners receiving the specified welfare payments and eligible properties in the Dublin rental pilot can qualify, subject to evidence and the other rules. At 4 kWp the enhanced solar calculation reaches €8,400, plus up to €600 for a qualifying battery.
Can I get a battery grant without installing new solar panels?
Yes. SEAI provides a standalone battery grant for eligible systems of at least 5 kWh. Check the property age, previous battery funding, contractor, approval and technical requirements.
What property ages qualify?
Solar PV and battery grants require the property to have been built and occupied before 2025. Attic insulation requires both before 2011, and the heat-pump measure requires both before 2021. Other eligibility checks still apply.
Does being a first-time buyer increase every grant?
No. The first-time-buyer uplift estimated here applies to attic insulation, with the eligible first-home purchase on or after 1 January 2025. It does not by itself increase solar or heat-pump support.
Does HAP or RAS automatically qualify for enhanced solar?
No. Ordinary HAP/RAS support can qualify a property for higher attic support. Enhanced solar needs the qualifying Dublin pilot arrangement and Local Authority confirmation, or the separate qualifying homeowner-welfare route.
Can I receive the full heat-pump bundle without replacing heating or upgrading radiators?
Do not assume so. Unit, required central-heating work and qualifying heating replacement have separate conditions and dwelling caps. Existing heat-pump replacement also has lower limits and no central-heating or scrappage add-ons.
What if the home received an SEAI grant before?
Check each selected measure separately at the property’s MPRN. Previous funding for the same measure can prevent a repeat grant. A previous solar PV grant does not by itself establish that the battery measure was funded.
Can I apply after buying materials or starting work?
SEAI requires the relevant grant offer before the materials purchases and grant-aided works. If timing is unclear or work began without approval, confirm your case with SEAI rather than relying on this estimator.
Is the result an SEAI grant approval?
No. It is an independent planning estimate based on the inputs. SEAI confirms eligibility, the offer amount, eligible expenditure, technical compliance and final payment.

Which home energy grants does this calculator cover?

This residential estimator brings four measures into one project budget: solar PV, a battery, attic insulation and a water-based heat pump. It screens each measure separately before adding support. An older home may meet every age cutoff, while a newer home may qualify for solar and a battery but not insulation or heating support.

The total covers the individual-grant route. Fully funded Warmer Homes upgrades and One Stop Shop retrofits have their own assessment and delivery rules. Do not add this cash-grant estimate to a quote that already deducts the same grant. Cavity and other wall insulation, windows, doors, solar thermal, assessment, BER and island uplifts are outside this first-release total. Air-to-air heat pumps are flagged for a separate SEAI quote check rather than assigned the water-based component amounts.

Solar panels and batteries: standard versus enhanced support

For standard solar support, the calculation is €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp and €200 per additional kWp up to 4 kWp: at most €1,800. The enhanced rates are €3,350 and €850 respectively, reaching €8,400. Fractional capacities are calculated pro rata. Capacity beyond 4 kWp does not increase either solar grant.

A qualifying battery of at least 5 kWh adds up to €600, including a standalone battery installation. A previous solar grant and a previous battery grant are different checks. Do not reject a new battery solely because the property previously received solar support; check whether the battery measure itself was funded.

Worked comparison: assume a qualifying 4 kWp installation quoted at €10,000 plus a 5 kWh battery quoted at €2,000, with eligibility and previous-funding checks satisfied. Standard support is €1,800 + €600 = €2,400, leaving €9,600 of the €12,000 project cost. Enhanced support is €8,400 + €600 = €9,000, leaving €3,000. These are cost illustrations, not installation-price estimates or promised awards.

Applicant categories do not unlock the same grants

A qualifying welfare payment must belong to the homeowner for enhanced solar. Check the exact payment and any child-age, duration or caring conditions. Choosing “first-time buyer” is not a general increase to every grant: here it affects attic insulation only, and the qualifying purchase must be on or after 1 January 2025.

Active HAP and RAS arrangements can support the higher attic rate. Enhanced solar requires the qualifying Dublin rental pilot and Local Authority confirmation. A normal private tenancy, HAP tenancy or RAS arrangement elsewhere does not by itself justify the €8,400 solar amount. The Dublin pilot covers Dublin City, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin authorities, subject to the property-specific letter.

Uplifts are not stacked: being both a qualifying first-time buyer and a qualifying welfare recipient does not create two attic grants. The estimator selects the appropriate rate once.

Attic insulation depends on the property, not roof area entered here

DwellingStandardQualifying enhanced
Detached€2,000€2,500
Semi-detached / end terrace€1,500€1,900
Mid-terrace€1,400€1,800
Eligible apartment€1,100€1,400

Both construction and occupation must be before 2011. An apartment directly below another apartment does not qualify for attic support. The roof arrangement must be appropriate for the funded measure.

For example, an eligible first-time buyer’s semi-detached home purchased in 2025, built and occupied in 2005, can be screened at the enhanced €1,900 attic rate. A €2,500 attic quote would then leave €600 to fund. The same buyer status does not enhance solar rates. Eligible expenditure can also limit the final amount.

Heat-pump support is a bundle, not an automatic €14,500

For the water-based systems estimated here, the house caps are up to €10,500 for the unit, €2,000 for required eligible central-heating work and €2,000 for qualifying heating replacement, with a €14,500 bundle maximum. Apartment unit and central-heating caps are €8,500 and €1,000, producing an €11,500 bundle maximum when replacement support also qualifies.

Each component needs its own conditions. Existing heat-pump replacement has a lower cap of €6,500 for houses or €4,500 for apartments and does not receive the central-heating or scrappage additions. The old system must not have been grant-aided, and the warranty conditions need checking.

Budget example: a qualifying house has a €16,000 water-based heat-pump installation quote and €2,500 of separate eligible radiator work. If all three components qualify, support is €10,500 + €2,000 + €2,000 = €14,500. Entered cost is €18,500 and estimated net cost €4,000. If radiator work is not needed, its grant is not added. The heating system and the property’s heat-loss evidence still need contractor and SEAI confirmation.

How to use the net-cost result safely

Enter each cost once, before deducting grants and including applicable VAT. A combined solar-and-battery quote should be split between those two fields without increasing its total. A heat-pump quote that already includes radiator work must also be split rather than copied into both inputs.

The estimator limits support to the entered cost of each measure and applies the published dwelling caps. An unknown previous-grant history is left out of the grant total until checked. The resulting net cost can therefore be a conservative partial estimate; it is not a statement that an unchecked measure is permanently ineligible.

Grants and energy savings answer different questions. This tool does not predict electricity generation, fuel savings, payback, finance costs or future energy prices. Keep contingency funds for excluded work and obtain a written scope from the contractor.

Heating budgets after the October 2026 tax changes

Heating-tax guidance checked on 22 October 2026 against Revenue’s updated guidance. From 14 October, tax on non-propellant kerosene fell to €122.83 per 1,000 litres, while natural-gas carbon tax is €8.77/MWh GCV. The solid-fuel increase was postponed until 1 May 2027; that date does not mean kerosene and natural gas automatically increase then.

When comparing an upgrade with your current heating costs, use current supplier quotes including tax. Do not add fuel tax again or subtract a reduction already reflected in the quote. See the heating-budget checkpoint and dated fuel-tax table. This grant estimate does not calculate heating savings, payback or fuel taxes.

Official sources and application checks

Rules were checked on 21 October 2026 against SEAI’s solar PV guidance, battery rules, attic grants, heat-pump guidance, Homeowner Application Guide and Solar PV Application Guide.

Before committing, confirm the property’s MPRN, previous funding, ownership, supporting evidence, registered contractor and technical specification. Follow the grant-offer sequence before materials purchases and works, then complete the required BER, documents and inspection steps. This independent calculator cannot check SEAI’s records or issue an approval.

For other routes, visit Warmer Homes or One Stop Shop. Businesses should use SEAI’s commercial solar guidance and its own calculator; residential and commercial support are not combined here.
